How to avoid getting hacked on Twitter

There’s been a lot of buzz around about hacking on Facebook and Twitter. Many people have had their accounts hacked in recent days. I woke up this morning and saw a mail from Twitter team alerting me to the fact that my Twitter account was hacked. And below the main content of the mail was this:

Then and only then did the reality of the truth hit home. I did notice a suspicious activity on my account while I was still there last night but it never occurred to me I may have been hacked. It happened shortly after I signed into a website that promised to increase my followers.

There are so many tweets telling you about sites that can inflate your follower stats in seconds like the one below:

The best warning is to AVOID THEM. My password was reset by the Twitter team and I had to choose a stronger one.

Here are just a few tips on staying protected:

  • Protect your password
  • Memorize your password, do not write it down
  • Do not share your password.
  • Avoid using one password for all your logins on the internet.
  • Don’t provide your password to someone.
  • Avoid logging in from public computers.
  • Change your password frequently.
  • Avoid dictionary words.
  • Avoid familiar items (names, phone number, etc).
  • Use a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters e.g Ae45#@$%
  • Use more characters (7+).

We all need to be very careful. I am glad I have had it sorted out.

Are you on Facebook?

Facebook page of Paintings by Nkolika Anyabolu M.DI have been spending a lot of time on facebook lately trying to build a network. There are so many artists from every corner of the world there and there are so many art groups to join.

Everyday I discover a new art group and they always provide an avenue to share works with other artists and to get your work to be seen.

It is also a perfect way to promote ones website or product.

I have 2 pages on facebook now and though the growth is slow, my fan base is gradually growing. The first one is about me as a visual artist and the other is about my paintings.Facebook page of Paintings by Nkolika Anyabolu M.D

There is just so much one can do and the advantages are overwhelming. Yet again to do well one has to devote a lot of time to it and spend an awful lot of time on facebook. And this is the time one could use to paint.

Yet again what’s the use of producing paintings when there’s no one to see it?

Below are some comments made by fellow wonderful artists on my page. Be sure to stop by whenever you are on facebook.

Are you on facebook? If no, I think you should give it a thought because it is fun and is a very good way of building up one’s viewership. As an artist it is very important to have your art seen by others. Not only does it increase the chances of selling your pieces it also brings you as an artist out for other artists to know.  As someone who isn’t an artist, it is also a good place to get connected with old school mates, neighbours or people you share a common interest with. Hope to see you there soon!!
