Flutists are a common sight back at home in Nigeria. They “spice up” every traditional occasion and they also add color to traditional ceremonies. The flute comes in different sizes and shapes even though quite frankly my subject is a Kaakaki Flutist. The flute/horn is usually made from cow horn. They are common sights in the Northern part of Nigeria and they often accompany Emirs.

Emirs are highly prominent and powerful traditional monarchs. Apart from their highly exalted traditional stools, these royal fathers are financially solid and have a lot of influence on their subjects and on the goings on around the country.

Wordpress 2.8.2 is out and I don’t know if I should upgrade or not. Especially after I had some problems with the Wordpress 2.8.1 version. I believe this one is meant to address the short comings of the earlier version. Have you upgraded and did you encounter any problems?????

This is another painting of a strange dog that came up to me and felt so safe and relaxed beside me as I stood at a bus stop. I see a lot of beauty in these creatures and I sometimes wish all human beings can be like dogs. Dale Carnegie, in his book: How to win friends and influence people; used a dog to describe how we ought to be in other to win people over. And I couldn’t agree with him more.

I love it when they wag their tails in joy and anticipation. And no matter what you do they will always come running to you anytime you get home…………….always happy to see you. Come to think of it: why can’t we all strive to be like that? Wouldn’t the world be a much better place to live in?

The fine art of painting, which is the bastard of alchemy, always has been always will be, a game. The rules of the game are quite simple: in a given arena, on as many psychic fronts as the talent allows, one must visually describe, the center of the meaning of existence.

Today’s a really wonderful day in a lot of ways. First it is Valentine’s day: the day to show love. And secondly, I woke up this morning to discover 2 of my paintings areĀ  featured in 2 Etsy treasury lists. Being new to Etsy, there’s so much that I do not know and “Treasuries” are some of them. But I’ve heard a lot about them and I know that a lot of people struggle to get one and better still many are happy when their item is featured in a treasury.

I came across this article that explained to a good extent what treasuries are all about and how one can go about getting it. At the end of the day it turned out that it actually does merit all the hype that has been placed on it. According to the article,

“A Treasury is a member-curated gallery of short-lived lists of 12 hand-picked items each (plus four alternates). It functions as a high-demand (and pretty!) promotional tool that many devoted Etsians fight to get. Members can feature their favorite items, items selected on a theme, or just however they like. The Treasury is not intended for self-promotion, but instead to acknowledge and share the many cool things for sale on Etsy.”

“The Etsy Home Page rotatesĀ  many times daily and is selected from a Treasury List or curated by Admin. The Admins choose their favorite lists to feature on the front page”

It sure does feel good knowing that someone liked my work enough to put it in a treasury. And the best part of the treasury is that it is visible to the public.

Please do make out time to visit the treasuries and click on my paintings to view them. Comments about the treasury are also allowed (and would be appreciated!!). They are here
