It sure does feel good to be back after so long. Had to take some time off to get some things sorted out. And on coming back I found out my WordPress blog was not working quite well. It happened soon after I upgraded to the new 2.8 version. Discovered I could not load images. I contacted Host Gator technical support team and it turned out that I was not the only one.
Apparently a lot of people that upgraded to the 2.8 version have been having problems with adding images to their posts. I thought of downgrading to 2.7 but decided to do what most people said they did and that was deactivating all the plug-ins and activating them one by one. And luckily I found out the one that was the problem…………………..the category icon plug-in. It’s amazing how much help one can get from forums.
All this Internet/website/blog stuff’s so complicated and confusing that I for one would be helpless and lost without discussion forums and the great Host Gator technical support staff.
In case you are having problems with your blog, here’s a great place to get help: WordPress Support

It is one thing to have a blog or website; it is another thing to know how to get around the technical side of it all. I must confess that after reading a lot about website creation and design, the one thing that struck home was the truth that the work only begins after one has created a website/blog.
I am thinking about redoing my website, kind of bored with the look it has thus I am slowly learning CSS (only God knows what that stands for!!!). All I know (all I am concerned about) is that it is going to make maintaining my site a lot easier. Because I used the basic HTML to design my site, I have nightmares when I think of making some changes on all the pages. But with CSS, I understand that I can make changes with just some clicks here and there. Again I am no expert, just lucky that I can find my way around the basics.
If anyone had told me that one day I would be talking about websites and blogs; I would have taken it as a joke. But as Lisa of 2 Create a Website and many other webmasters advice:
One must create a website or blog about what he/she’s passionate about.
According to them that is the only way you can get the strength to do all that needs to be done and learn all that needs to be learnt.
Have you started a blog yet? What about a website? I think you should think seriously about giving it a try if you can.

Welcome back! I had a similar problem with 2.8 (I use WordPress for three sites I maintain, even though I use Blogger for my Daily Paintings). I found that even disabling the plugins didn’t help much. I finally discovered, through trial and error, that my host was running php 4 and you have to use a trick to force it into php 5. As soon as I did that all my troubles vanished.

Hello Sarah, it feels good to be back. Wow you know a lot about web jargon. I’ve heard about php and all that but I have no idea what exactly it is. One thing’s for sure………….it’s way beyond me. But I’m glad you sorted it out.
I prayed hard that mine’ll be sorted out by simply deactivating and activating the plug ins because I didn’t think I could go through the hassle of more complex routes.
What’s php anyway?

php works hand-in-hand with css (cascading style sheets) to help simplify web design. WordPress is built with php. With a combination of css, php and mysql (which is a database) you can have a really easily maintained website. The css determines the style, layout etc., mysql stores all the information and php is used to pull information from the database at appropriate places. There needs to be a little bit of html in there too, but only enough to glue it all together (so to speak).

wow my problem is that I get very excited whenever I stumble unto a new code and design that I often do not have the patience to go indepth. I hope I’ll be able to learn all that: php, mysql and css. Stumbled unto this CSS tutorial videos made by Lisa of 2createawebsite.com and she really made CSS look so simple.
What did you use to learn them? any software?
Do you design your site yourself?
What website building software do you use?
Too many questions!!!!!!

I taught my self php & Mysql a couple of years ago, largely with online resources. I built (or rebuilt) three websites from scratch, no software, just code. I have just recently though moved two of them to WordPress, using WordPress as a cms (content management system) not really as a blog. It is easier in the long run to use a platform that someone else maintains and enhances, the WordPress team are so much more knowledgeable than I am. However, it is useful to understand the underlying structure. My own website splynch.com is still run on my own cms but I am considering merging it into my WordPress blog somehow.
